Gov. Cox Launches Utah Quantum Initiative
Governor Spencer J. Cox has signed an executive order establishing the Utah Quantum Initiative, a new statewide strategy aimed at positioning Utah as a leader in quantum technology. This initiative prioritizes developing quantum-ready workforce programs, accelerating commercialization efforts, and coordinating research and manufacturing assets across the state.
Led by GOED, in partnership with The Nucleus Institute, the initiative will utilize a new Quantum Coordination Council to align state, industry, and academic efforts. By capitalizing on existing strengths in semiconductors, photonics, and defense, the council aims to attract private investment and secure federal funding. As part of this effort, a comprehensive landscape report mapping Utah’s research and workforce assets is scheduled for delivery in March, 2027. The executive order is effective immediately and will run through the end of 2028.
