DOPL issues 49 citations and doubles fines in multi-agency enforcement sweep.

Salt Lake City– The Utah Department of Commerce’s Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL) issued 49 administrative citations and over $91,000 in potential fines during a coordinated nationwide sweep targeting residential construction violations.

Between October 13 and 23, DOPL conducted 326 statewide site checks in partnership with the National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies (NASCLA). The annual multi-agency operation aims to protect homeowners, promote fair market competition, and hold unlicensed contractors accountable.

DOPL urges homeowners to use the resources available on their website, including the Home Improvement Success Guide, license verification, and the Residential Construction Agreement template, when hiring a contractor.

“A reliable marketplace requires active accountability,” said Adam Watson, Assistant Director of the Division of Professional Licensing. “By actively enforcing our licensing laws, we send a clear message: Utah protects consumer investments and defends responsible, licensed contractors. We refuse to let bad actors degrade the quality and trust of our thriving construction industry.”

DOPL appreciates the community’s cooperation and reiterates its dedication to protecting the public. DOPL encourages individuals with concerns or information regarding licensing practices to contact the office directly.
